A DETERMINED team from Roberts Bakery bakery battled the wind and rain for a gruelling cycle to Snowdon, followed by a climb to its summit, all in aid of charity.

The Rudheath-based firm raised about £10,000 for the Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention Appeal and Claire House in its latest charity challenge.

Cyclists tackled the 90-mile route from Northwich to Snowdon, where a team of 50 walkers wearing pink tutu’s began the 3,560ft climb to the summit.

Roberts’ family member Lindsay Occleston Roberts played a key role in organising the event with her children, James and Laura, who took part on the day.

She said: “This was an absolutely superb event despite the appalling weather conditions.

“It was also a very personal challenge for lots of people who took part, many of whom have been touched by cancer in some way.

“Everyone made such an effort and the sense of camaraderie was just wonderful.

“I want to thank everyone for such a great effort in doing this challenge and raising money for two very deserving charities.”

The challenge was thought-up by staff member Martin Edwards, who took part in both the cycle and walk.

And after shedding two stones in weight and training for four months, he was ready for the challenge.

“It was all about getting people together for a fun, worthwhile event while raising money for charity,” he added.

“And it was definitely a success because people are already asking what we’re doing next year.

“Thanks to everyone who gave up their weekend and put up with the blisters for two really great causes.”
