A GRIEVING father has hit out at the conduct of police officers following a wake to commemorate the life of his teenage son.

Northwich man Shaun Boyle branded four arrests that were made following the funeral of his son, motorcyclist Adam Boyle, as an overreaction.

Mr Boyle’s son, Adam, died on May 27, after the motorbike he was riding was in collision with a car on the A556 Northwich bypass at Rudheath.

The former Rudheath High School pupil, who ‘lived and breathed’ for motorbike racing, died from fatal injuries aged just 19.

A family statement said: “Adam was the most fun loving, caring, funny, handsome, sensitive young man.

“The best son and brother who had a laugh with his mates and would help absolutely anybody at the drop of a hat without giving it a second thought.”

The teenager’s funeral was held at St Helen’s Church Witton, on June 14, followed by a wake at the Chesterway pub.

Later that evening, police were called to disturbances outside the Witton Chimes pub and The Roebuck, in Northwich town centre.

And although Mr Boyle said there was a few ‘skirmishes’ between certain people, he maintained that on the whole, it was ‘absolutely nothing’.

“It was a nothing incident of kids that had a lot of emotion and were very good friends with Adam, and obviously there was beer,” he said.

“The police have absolutely overreacted and I am really annoyed with them.”

He explained that the incident at the Witton Chimes was a ‘family feud’ and had nothing to do with his son’s funeral.

“We got tarred with that brush,” he said.

“These young lads, I have never known young people, ever, that have been so supportive to us as a family.

“Even people you may think are rum lads, they have been absolutely brilliant and first class.

“I have got respect for them and they have been brilliant.”

Supt Nick Bailey said: "We have provided support to the family throughout this traumatic time and it is very disappointing that this small number of individuals caused problems in the town following the private wake.

“Four men were arrested, three of whom remain on bail for a number of public order offences after officers were called to pockets of disturbance reported in the town centre.

“The officers acted in the interests of public safety in resolving what was a volatile situation in an appropriate manner.

“Their conduct showed little respect following a private gathering to acknowledge the death of a young man who lost his life in tragic circumstances."
