PLANS to create a memorial park and crematorium on land between Lostock Green and Lach Dennis will be revealed at a public exhibition tomorrow, Wednesday.

The facility, which would serve 140,000 people, has been proposed by Memoria Ltd for a site south of the junction of Hangman’s Lane and Birches Lane.

Residents are invited to view the initial diagrams and share their views with the development team at Lach Dennis Village Hall, in Holmes Chapel Road, between 3.45pm and 7.30pm.

Jamieson Hodgson of Memoria Ltd said: “The project is in its early stages but we are looking forward to welcoming people to the event to discuss the proposals.

“We are committed to meaningful and inclusive pre-application consultation and hope to see as many local people as possible so that our proposals can benefit from their knowledge and insight.

“Attendees will be able to discuss with the specialists on our development team the issues that mean the most to them and we look forward to hearing people’s feedback and suggestions for the scheme moving forward.”

At Monday’s meeting of Lostock Gralam Parish Council, members discussed the plans.

Although the site falls in the neighbouring parish of Lach Dennis, concerns were raised about the potential impacts in Birches Lane, Lostock Green, including a ‘convoy of traffic going up and down’.

Lostock Green resident Ros Todhunter said villagers she had spoken to had voiced their objection to the plans, mainly on traffic grounds, but also due to the ‘inappropriate’ nature of the site, the affect on the rural character of the village and the impact on house prices.

Clr Shaun Wells said: “We can only object on planning rules and regulations, traffic being one of them.

“Despite what our views are, we have to represent the people who are expressing their views.

“If most people are saying they are against it, that is the expression we have to show.”
