Cyclists needed to tackle summer fundraiser
AN EPIC new cycling event has been launched by a children’s charity inviting challengers to bike from Lands End to John O’ Groats in a day.
The Joshua Tree has organised the LeJog fundraiser as an indoor cycle at Mid Cheshire College on Saturday, July 14.
Rachel Thomas, community fundraiser and event organiser for the charity, said: “We need 12 teams of four to complete the Lands End to John O’ Groats route in a day.
“Cyclists will complete the 1,410km route in relay teams and prizes for the furthest individual and team distances will be awarded.
“The top prize is a jersey from Olympic gold medallist and Tour de France cyclist, Geraint Thomas.”
Team Cycles will be providing 12 Watt bikes for the event and will be on hand throughout the day offering training advice.
Participants will also receive nutritional hints and tips from experts, free sports physiotherapy and a goodie bag full of energy boosting treats to take home.
Entrants need to pay a registration fee of £25 and raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship for The Joshua Tree.
All participants must be over 16 years old.
The Joshua Tree is currently fundraising to build a holiday house and support centre in Sandiway.
The house will offer free short breaks to families from across the north west who have a child undergoing treatment for an immune suppressing illness.
The Support Centre will offer emotional support to these families and act as a drop in resource for families in the local community.

• For fundraisers who fancy a little less energetic of a challenge, The Joshua Tree’s annual Silly Socks Family Fun Run takes place from 10am at Marbury Park on Saturday, April 21.
Entrants can run, jog or enjoy a relaxing stroll around either a 2.5km or 5km course.
