NORTHWICH’S first tattoo convention looks set to be a sell out when it opens its doors on February 19.
More than 200 tickets have already been sold for the Northwich Charity Tattoo and Art Expo 2012 and organisers are urging people to buy tickets in advance to guarantee entry.
Paul Naylor, of Powerhouse Tattoo, has organised the event with friend Andy Hughes to raise money for Action Medical Research, which aims to stop the suffering of babies and children caused by disease and disability.
Paul said: “We’ve got people coming from all over, someone’s even bought tickets from Dundee.
“There seems to be a lot of interest and our only concern is that it’s going to be too busy.”
The expo will be held at Winnington Park Recreation Club and boasts a line-up of around 30 tattoo artists, live graffiti illustrations, live bands, hip hop DJs and an art auction.
“It’s going to be quite unusual for round here,” said Paul.
“A lot of conventions don’t cater for people who aren’t getting tattoos and once they’ve wandered round there’s nothing to do.
“The tattoo side is integral to this – and we’ve got the best artists in the country coming – but so are the bands, DJs and the art.
“There seems to be a bit of buzz about it and I would say to people buy tickets beforehand if you can because we can’t guarantee entry – it’s going to be a sell out.
“I think this is good for the area and we’re also promoting safe tattooing.”
The expo is just one element of Paul and Andy’s fundraising efforts, which will peak in October when they attempt to climb Mount Kilimanjaru.
