UPDATE: Safe crossing relies on one-way route

PLANS for a one-way system are not the only option for residents desperate for a safe crossing near their homes.

Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWAC) has issued more information about proposals for a pedestrian crossing at the junction of Station Road, Manchester Road, Middlewich Road and Victoria Road.

Alterations are needed at Albert Place to allow for the crossing facilities and this could be either a one-way system or signal control of Albert Place with a parking ban on the Tesco side of the road to keep it clear and make the junction safer.

A letter to residents from Mark Jones, a CWAC highways engineer, explains that the one-way system, from the crossroads to the cut through from Greenall Road to Victoria Road, is the council’s preferred option.

He said: “The junction will work better with traffic approaching from four arms instead of five, but we realise residents will be affected.

“We have carried out two 12-hour surveys at the junction in the past two years and have established that approximately 50 vehicles during a 12-hour period enter the junction from Albert Place.

“This is a relatively low number for this period.”

Residents are invited to comment or object to their proposals.

The pedestrian crossing will be put in by the end of March, either with the preferred option of a one-way system or by installing a traffic signal on Albert Place.

Please sign the iPetition in the link above. I understand there are mixed feelings regarding the modifications but I believe the large majority of individuals know this is a bad idea.

It appears the website is having trouble hosting the petition, I've contacted iPetition and they're working on a resolution now so please try again in a few hours if not tomorrow!

Morning all,

The petition response this far has been great, however I have just been informed that due to the number of people signing the petition (which is a good thing!), iPetition will prompt for a donation AFTER the signature has been recorded. Do not panic! There is NO requirement for a donation to iPetition and as soon as you receive this message you will have had your valid signature recorded against the petition.

I'm in communication with the Northwich Gyratory - The Truth facebook group who are raising objections to the system and are planning a paper based petition which I'm hoping we can combine with this one with the same petition details.

As always I will keep you posted.
