CHEFS will be putting their fitness levels to the test when they join in a pancake race for charity this Shrove Tuesday.
Celebrity chef Dave Mooney, from The Lord Binning Pub and Kitchen, in Kelsall, has launched the event in aid of St Luke’s Hospice.
The Kingsmead man, who was Granada Reports’ resident chef and host of The Food Hunter, is inviting teams to try their skill on a tailor-made agility course in The Lord Binning’s grounds.
He said: “We got our heads together with St Luke’s to see how we could raise some money for them because they’re such a really good cause and the hospice is such an uplifting place.
“We’re hopefully going to be doing a few things with them in the future.”
Dave, who worked at a crêperie in France, is no stranger to pancakes and will be joining in the Shrove Tuesday fun.
“I will be doing the pancake race myself – but badly,” he joked.
His ideal pancake topping would make the most of local ingredients.
He said: “It would be a savoury buckwheat pancake with Cheshire cheese, some smoked bacon cooked in little bits so it’s crispy and a little bit of beautiful finely chopped apple.”
The pancake race will be held at 5pm on February 21 and residents, businesses, celebrities and sports stars are already signing up for the challenge.
Participants will be treated to complimentary seasonal refreshments in the form of local mulled cider and the winner or winning team will be awarded a meal at The Lord Binning.
Luke, the London Routemaster Bus that was restored for St Luke’s by craftsmen from Bentley Motors, will also be at the event.
Registration is £25 per team and £5 per individual.
