PLANS for an event to celebrate the creation of Kingsmead village have been put on ice for now.
Parish councillors hoped to celebrate their new parish this year but may have to wait until they can find a suitable venue for a significant event.
They discusssed holding an event at the school, in Dukes Way, but fear that some villagers may feel excluded.
Clr Beth Colbourne said: “It’s great to centre the community at the school because it’s in the middle and it’s at the centre of the community.
“But people who are tender about their children not getting into the school do feel more excluded the more things go on at the school.
“We need to be more ‘there’s an event at the school but it’s for the community.”
Clr Bill Simpson, parish council chairman, suggested a number of parks and open spaces that could be suitable for the event once the land is transferred to the council.
Clr Helen Weltman said: “The problem is that we haven’t got the land.
“We could do a launch at Christmas then do something when we get the land next year.”
Clr Simpson said: “I think we need a significant event that will run and run.”
The council will consider the issue again at future meetings.
