Lostock Gralam station revamp

LOSTOCK Gralam train station has undergone a revamp with two new shelters.

More than £3,000 has been invested in the facilities which can be found on both the Manchester and Chester platforms.

The shelters will now allow passengers to escape from the wind, rain and sun while waiting for their train on the Mid Cheshire Line.

They are a result of a partnership between Northern Rail and Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWAC).

Mark Baker, client and stakeholder manager for Northern Rail, said: “We are always looking for ways to improve the journey experience for our customers and Lostock Gralam passengers will greatly benefit from these shelters.”

Sally Buttifant, Mid Cheshire Community Rail Officer, said: “We are working closely with Northern Rail and other partners to improve Lostock Gralam station and the new shelters are part of this.

“There is also improved lighting and car parking.

“We hope that local people will find their station a more pleasant place from which to ride the Mid Cheshire Line.”

At the June meeting of Lostock Gralam Parish Council, Sally appealed for volunteers to join the Friends of Lostock Gralam Station group to try to improve its image and facilities.

A geranium-planting session is planned for the near future.

To volunteer, call Sally on 01244 976788 or 07736523863.
