NOSTALGIC memories are needed to illustrate more than two decades of scenic rail journeys.

The Mid Cheshire Rail Users Association (MCRUA), is appealing for help from people who have been on its rail excursions in the past 22 years.

John Oates, MCRUA chairman, said: “For the past 22 years MCRUA has run a yearly scenic railtour from stations on the Mid Cheshire Line – which is the line between Chester and Manchester via Northwich, Knutsford and Altrincham.

“They are a unique way of letting mid Cheshire residents have a day out on a train from their local railway station – just like you could in the days of British Rail.

“But this year we are looking for help.

“We have launched a new website, which has details of our last 37 trips and we our looking for images and nostalgic recollections of these trips.

“It’s amazing when we look back at the number of people who travelled on either one of our steam specials on the Mid Cheshire Line or one of our diesel hauled railtours to other parts of the country.

“There must be a lot of pictures in family albums of these trips”.

MCRUA’s first railtour was to the Settle and Carlisle Railway in 1988 and it was in so much demand the group had to ask for more carriages.

Other tours have included the West Country, Wales, Cumbria and Scotland.

John said: “We are not just looking for line side photos but also photos of those on board enjoying the excursions.

“Many bring their own food and our trips become dining cars on the way home.

“They are a great reminder of those old fashioned days when families used to go to the seaside on the train.”

MCRUA’s next diesel-hauled railtour, the North Eastern Express, is on Saturday, May 7, to Darlington, Durham and Newcastle.
