FORMER pupils went back to school on Thursday night to celebrate their academic achievements.

Hartford High School’s class of 2010 returned for their awards evening, where prizes were given by Mark Eccleston, a Paralympic silver medallist.

Mr Eccleston won his medal for tennis at Athens in 2004 and is Great Britain’s only World Tennis Number One.

He has also captained the champion British Wheelchair Rugby Team and has been British wheelchair table tennis champion.

He spoke to the audience about overcoming adversity and achieving your personal goals.

Mike Holland, headteacher, paid tribute to Hartford High School leavers at the awards evening.

“Your results were outstanding, our best ever set of collective results,” he said.

“Individually you achieved in excess of your academic targets and every single one of you has the college place you wanted.

“However, just as importantly, we set out to give you the support and opportunities required for taking on resonsibilities so that you leave us as very well rounded individuals – mature and ready to face the world.

“You have responded to our expectations and the opportunities offered superbly – in lessons, in sport, in your contributions to the wider community.

“So we have confidence in knowing that you will be making positive and successful contributions to society in your time after school.

“You only have one secondary school – Hartford High School is yours – cherish your memories.”
