THE explosion that destroyed a dentist’s surgery on Monday was probably caused by a gas boiler, according to Cheshire Fire Service.

No one was hurt in the explosion at Rudheath Dental Practice, on Middlewich Road, which was described as ‘quite severe’ by Paul Macgugan, Cheshire Fire Service station manager.

Graham Cross of Cheshire Fire Service, said: “There is a possibility the boiler ignited.”

Engineers may now need to demolish the rear end of the property.

Jackie Vero, practice manager, said: “It is the central heating boiler that has come on and just exploded.

Carl Day, who also lives on Farm Road, said: “People in St John’s Close had heard it as well as people in East Avenue. If the clocks hadn’t gone back an hour there could have been people in the building during the explosion.”

Cheshire Fire and Rescue service is reminding people to have their boilers serviced this winter.
