Do you remember the old cigar shop?

The faded signs are all that remain The faded signs are all that remain

Remember the cigar shop?

DO any of your readers remember Cheadle and Sons Ltd, wholesale tobacconists in Witton Street in the centre Northwich?

I was surprised when walking through the town the other day to see this surviving, but now decidedly flaky, advertisement.

It’s back to the 1960s since we saw the advertisement showing off an elegantly coiffeured woman sitting smoking at a café table with a notice hanging from her earring that read ‘Today’s cigarette is a Bristol’.

And goodness knows how long ago it is that someone headed into the centre of Northwich to make a choice between Havana, Jamaican, Dutch or English cigars and whiffs.

How much longer will it be before this little vestige of smoking nostalgia disappears forever under a coat or paint or a modern billboard?

Not long I suspect.
