Parishioners will have to wait a little longer

HARTFORD residents will now have to wait until later this month to marvel their new church hall.

The opening of St John’s church centre on Chester Road was due to open on Sunday, September 5 to coincide with the Hartford Summer Fete.

However, construction delays means possession of the building will not be handed over to the church until September, 24.

Rev Mike Smith said: “It’s been a major project for us.

“I became vicar in 2004 and we started planning in September 2005. It’s almost a year now since construction started.

“There have been a few different issues trying to finish the building off. It’s been terribly frustrating but we’re making do.”

The bishop of Chester, the Rt Rev Dr Peter Forster, will formally open the new centre on Sunday, November 7.

All events scheduled to take place in the new building during September will now be held at the main church site.

Up to date information on the development can be found on the website, stjohnshartford.org
