CASH is up for grabs in the latest round of grants from the Guardian’s parent company.
The Gannett Foundation wants to help out community projects that will be of lasting benefit to the people of mid Cheshire.
The foundation, which is the charitable arm of the Guardian’s parent company, Gannett, prioritises schemes of lasting benefit, such as a specially-adapted minibuses for elderly people or people with disabilities, projects that benefit people with special needs, either through disability or disadvantage, and sport, environment, conservation and local history projects.
Grant applications should be for specified items or purposes, with detailed costings.
Grants will be for a maximum of £50,000.
The latest winner was Sandy Lane Equestrian Centre, which scooped £7,200 to improve its Riding for the Disabled facilities.
Past winners from this area have included Cuddington and Sandiway Parish Playing Fields Association, The Russett School, in Weaverham, Friends of Rosebank School, Cheshire Penguins and the Neuromuscular Centre.
All applicants must be registered charities. Grants will not be given to individuals or organisations that are not registered charities, national or regional organisations – unless the project addresses specific local community needs, medical or research organisations, animal charities or political, religious or uniformed groups.
School groups, except special needs schools, are also excluded.
The foundation will not fund salaries, training costs, publicity funding, general running costs, endowment funds, general appeals or general contributions to costs or multi-year campaigns.
The Guardian will expect successful applicants to cooperate with reasonable arrangements for publicity for any grant given and in some cases may expect the Gannett Foundation logo to be displayed on major items of equipment such as minibuses.
Applications must be submitted on the official form, which is available by visiting northwichguardian.co.uk and following the Gannett Foundation link.
Applications must be received by Helen Buckley, Guardian Series Newspapers, The Academy, 138 Bridge Street, Warrington, WA1 2RU by September 3.
