TWENTY five jobs have gone at Brunner Mond.

The soda-ash manufacturer confirmed the redundancies today, Monday, and said it was part of an 'organisational review'.

A spokesman said: "This review has affected people working in the support functions of the business, which means employees not directly involved in the manufacturing process.

"We have conducted this type of review every few years - the most recent being 2003/04 - in order to manage our costs and ensure that the company remains competitive.

"This comes at a critical time for Brunner Mond, dealing with the effects of the recession, responding to emerging competition and handling the demands for lower prices from our customers.

"The consultation process has been conducted within all the legal requirements as well as the fair approach we have always used in these circumstances.

"All people made redundant as a result of the process will receive support to help secure a new job."

The company, which has sites in Winnington and Lostock, has submitted plans to build a waste incinerator so it can generate its own power, stating it would help safeguard jobs.
