THIEVES tried to use a stolen forklift truck to steal a cash machine in Northwich last night.
At around 11.30pm, a group of men tried to break into the cash machine at the Natwest branch in Station Road.
Police found the fork-lift truck and a lorry abandoned nearby to the scene at around 3am, and there was a significant amount of damage to the ATM and the surrounding walls.
They did not manage to get into the cash machine of the bank. The lorry had previously reported stolen from the Oldham area on March 19. The incident is believed to have occurred at approximately 11:30pm.
The fork-lift was stolen just prior to the burglary from Selwood located on Manchester Road, Northwich.
The men are believed to have fled the scene in a small hatchback type car.
Detective Constable John Lyons who is leading the investigation said "We are appealing to local residents or anyone who may have been passing through the area at the time and saw anyone in the vicinity of Station Road around this time to contact Northwich Pro-Active Policing Team on 0845 458 0000."
