CALLOUS Facebook users caused devastation by hijacking a tribute page to tragic Alice Worthington.

A group of individuals, known as ‘Internet Trolls’, posted obscene comments and pictures on the wall of the group dedicated to the Sir John Deanes College pupil over the weekend.

Grieving friends were horrified to find traumatic photographs and malicious comments added to the page, which has attracted more than 8,000 following Alice’s death in a car crash on March 3.

Internet Trolls are said to get their ‘kicks’ by posting abuse on websites to provoke a reaction, and many of the mindless offenders – who came from all over the world – were also members of other groups with ‘RIP’ in the title.

The mother of one of the 17-year-old’s friends, who did not wish to be named, said she was sickened to find people could ‘stoop so low’.

She said: “It was disgusting. They posted insults to Alice and her friends, pictures of car crashes and even pictures of babies being strangled.

“It was so dark, very dark, and evil. My daughter was horrified. It’s just sick quite frankly, absolutely sick.

“You could see they were fans of other groups with ‘RIP’ in the title so I think they just go searching for these kinds of groups.”

The graphic nature of the comments and photographs mean they could not be printed in the Guardian, but a new group has been set up and the old one closed down.

Alice’s mum Fiona, of Swanlow Lane, Winsford, said she had not used Facebook herself but hoped Alice’s friends were alright.

She said: “I don’t go on it myself but I know the girls do. This world is just full of nasty people, it’s just awful. And the worst thing is they are still alive while Alice is gone. It’s not fair.”
