Cheshire West and Cheshire to ask resident about sport

ACTIVE people have been asked by Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWAC) to say what they think about the places where they play sport.

The survey, by leading sports consultants pmpgenesis, ends on Monday.

“We want to find out what the local community thinks about what is on offer,” said Clr Richard Short, CWAC executive group member for culture and recreation.

“The findings will feed into many different council activities as well as helping us to improve recreation and sport provision for residents.”

The council will pay particular attention to what taxpayers say about outdoor complexes at Knights Grange, in Winsford, and Moss Farm, in Northwich.

Schools, sports clubs and community groups have also been asked for their opinions in the study, which will identify priority areas for future investment.

At the end of last year, CWAC’s culture and recreation department said it wants to replace Moss Farm with a £6m state-of-the-art Health and Wellbeing centre that includes a swimming pool.

But that announcement came before the council’s own review of its leisure assets had even finished.

The results have still not been made public, although officers are due to present their initial findings to councillors before the end of this month.

“Moss Farm has potential, but it needs somebody with a vision to harness that in a coherent plan,” said Sam Naylor, chairman of Northwich Rugby Club.

“The site has needed a makeover for more than 20 years.”

CWAC has also directly contacted 10,000 voters at random, inviting them to complete the questionnaire, although other residents are not excluded.

They can fill in their answers online.

“This is the latest opportunity to let the council know just what we think of the facilities at Knights Grange,” said Alan Parsons, chairman of Vale Royal Athletics Club.

“Therefore we will urge as many people as possible to fill in the survey.”

An online version of the questionnaire appears on CWAC’s website.
