FOUR teenagers spotted vandalising a Winsford community centre are wanted for questionning.

Three boys and a girl, all dressed in black, were seen taking bricks out of the wall of The Edge in Cheviot Square on Saturday, February 27 at around 9.30pm.

Witnesses said the group pulled bricks from the outside wall near to the roof of the building. All are described as being in their late teens and the girl had long dark hair.

Jill McQuaid, chairman of Winsford Community Action Project (WINCAP), which runs the centre, said such acts of vandalism could place the future of the well-used centre in jeapordy.

She said: “It’s so disheartening to see the centre being vandalised in this way. It was set up by the community for the community and is well used. To lose it would be a devastating blow to the residents, not only in this area but across Winsford.

“We have to pay for these repairs and if vandalism like this continues, it could mean the centre has to close because the money would not be there to keep it open.”

The Edge is home to a wide variety of groups including youth groups, mother and toddler groups, alternative education and a community café, and has around 160 volunteers.

PCSO Claire Hulse added: “The Edge does a lot for the community and it is a real shame that it has been abused in this way. I would appeal for anyone who saw those who committed the damage to come forward and let the police know.”
