NEW life has been injected into Lewis Carroll’s novel Alice in Wonderland 145 years after it was penned.
Director Tim Burton’s Disney version of the classic adventure has been released in cinemas across the country.
Ken Oultram, the founder of the Lewis Carroll Society, said: “Until 1865 all children’s books were moralistic or had religious undertones. This was an inquisitive child questioning the authorities.
“People who know about children’s literature talk about pre and post Alice.”
He said he was drawn to the book as an adult because of its humour and nonsense.
Mr Oultram, from Northwich, formed the society in 1960 after previously attending meetings of a London-based society which discussed the author’s work.
Mr Oultram attended a premier of in the 1971 adaptation of the film, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and the launch night of Dreamchild, a film about the real Alice, in 1985.
Johnny Depp plays the Mad Hatter and relative unknown, Mia Wasikowska takes on Alice in the film.
