Police to combat underage drinking

12:50pm Wednesday 10th March 2010

UNDERAGE drinking is being targeted by police working with owners of licensed premises.

PC Pete Goring, Cheshire’s licensing officer, has written to all the licensed venues in the area asking them to inform him about events that may attract underage drinkers such as 18th or 21st birthday parties.

PC Goring said: “When venues inform us they are holding parties where some of the guests may be under 18, we will be able to discuss the event and suggest measures to assist the venue.

“Last year, a number of incidents highlighted the problems that can occur with underage drinking, in particular to do with the safety of the young people involved.

“These issues are best tackled by the police and licensees working together.”
