BRUNNER Mond held a two-day public exhibition to share details of its proposed incinerator in Lostock.

The soda-ash giant wants to bulldoze the disused power station at the site of Griffiths Road and build an incinerator which it would use to power both its Northwich plants.

More than 100 people visited the exhibition, at Lostock Social Club, to quiz Brunner Mond staff about its proposal. Because the plans are still very much in their infancy, there were no details about lorry loads, chimney heights or emission levels available.

Brunner Mond managing director John Kerrigan said: “We appreciate that people have taken the time to come and talk to us about the plans and fill in a questionnaire, which gives us a good indication of what people think right now.

“We are still at the early stages in the development of our proposals but as more details become available, we will be holding further public consultation events to keep the local community informed.”

Matters raised by the public included questions about traffic implications and emissions, while action group CHAIN gathered outside on the Wednesday night to voice its opposition.

Mr Kerrigan added: “Members of CHAIN accepted our invitation to come along, and on Tuesday, our planning expert spent a good deal of time talking with the group’s representatives, Mr Cartwright and Mr Byrne.

“Meanwhile, if any groups or individuals have any questions or any issues they want to discuss, we will respond as quickly as possible – people can call our dedicated telephone line on 0845 077 3801, or e-mail sustainable energy@brunnermond.com.”
