FARMERS in the mid Cheshire area are being urged to record any incidents of fly-tipping.
The Environment Agency has launched a pilot scheme with eight major landowners in the north west and Midlands to identify the real extent of the issue.
Initial research showed that 94 per cent of private landowners suffer from the illegal dumping of waste.
Half of the landowners in the survey said that the average cost for clearance was £809 per removal and the cost has had to be covered by the farmers.
The Countryside Alliance and Country Land and Business Association are appealing to farmers to be more active.
This is because farmers in the past have hesitated to report fly tipping because they feel nothing has ever been done to prevent it.
