NORTHWICH residents are being urged to view plans for the new Riversdale Bridge.
The plans for the bridge at Northwich Salt Museum, on London Road, will be available for the public to look at up to this Saturday, September 5.
The Sustrans’ Connect2 project aims to reinstate the popular bridge, creating a safe and attractive route for pedestrians and cyclists over the River Weaver.
Following the display, Cheshire West and Chester Council intends to prepare and submit a planning application.
The walking and cycling route will cost around £1.5 million and is being funded by the Big Lottery Fund through Sustrans’ Connect2 and Cheshire West and Chester Council. It is anticipated that the bridge will open by August next year.
Clr Herbert Manley, CWAC prosperity executive member, said: “It is very important that residents come to see the plans and give us their views.
“Until its closure, up to 1,000 people crossed the Riversdale footbridge daily, using it particularly to reach local schools and colleges.
“The new bridge will link to riverside towpaths, the town centre, railway stations and other local facilities.
“And further afield, the footpaths and cycle paths in Northwich will link to the Weaver Way, one of the flagship projects in the Weaver Valley.”
The display will be in the library of the salt museum, providing information and details on the proposals for Connect2 projects including the Riversdale Bridge.
Opening times are 10am until 5pm, Tuesday to Friday and Saturday 2pm until 5pm.
Staff will be on hand to answer any questions on the Tuesday between 10.30am and 12.30pm, Wednesday 2pm till 4pm, Thursday 10am till 12pm, Friday 3pm till 5pm and Saturday 2pm until 5pm.
Peter Foster, regional director for Sustrans, said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming as many people as possible along to share the current proposals for the Riversdale swing bridge.
“We want to hear more about what you think about the Connect2 network you voted for before the council submits the planning application.
“So come along, have your say and help make the route the best it can be for your every day journeys by foot and by bike.”
Sustrans Connect2 is funded by a £50 million Big Lottery Fund grant after the UK public voted the scheme the winner of The People’s Millions Lottery contest in December 2007.
