Northwich town mayor picks teen consort

NORTHWICH’S town mayor has a new sidekick to keep her company during her year in office.

Hartford teenager, Daniel Lewis is looking forward to 12 months of official engagements with Clr Helen Burder after he was chosen to be her consort.

Connexions organised a selection event when all the candidates met Clr Burder and were given chance to show off their knowledge about Northwich and explain why they wanted to be the mayor’s consort or mayoress.

Hartford High School pupil Daniel, 14, who lives in Chester Road, was voted into his new role unanimously by Clr Burder, Clr Arthur Neil and his fellow candidates.

He said: “It is an honour to be selected as the mayor’s consort and I see it as an opportunity to put forward the views of Northwich’s young people and make a difference to our town for this generation and those in the future.”

Clr Burder said: “Daniel is an exceptional example of a young person today and I hope together we can form stronger links between the council and the young people in Northwich.”

Daniel was proposed as consort at Northwich Town Council’s meeting on Monday where councillors accepted him unanimously.
