A NEW hotel could be on the cards for Northwich.
Following the closure of the iconic Floatel earlier this year, the town was left without a major hotel.
But the former Department for Social Services building off Chesterway in now up for sale for use as either a hotel, offices or retail development.
Stephen Downey, commercial manager for GL Hearn which is marketing the property, said interest has already been shown from developers wanting to turn it into a hotel.
He said: “We have had interest from hotel developers. We are open to offers and will continue to market the premises until we receive an appropriate and viable offer.”
He added that any potential hotel could be in the region of 60 bedrooms and upwards.
Town Mayor Clr Helen Burder welcomed the news, and said it could help revive tourism in the town.
She said: “Obviously when we have things like the Thundersprint we need somewhere for people to stay to try and bring tourism back to Northwich.
“The shops are desperately in need of help from local councils but a new hotel would definitely help revive the town.”
