Neuromuscular centre team say 'Three Peaks' challenge will push them to the limit

AN intrepid team from the Neuromuscular Centre in Winsford is preparing itself for the next challenge to raise funds for the unit.

On August 15 and 16, a team from the Neuromuscular Centre in Woodford Lane West will be digging out their waterproofs and their boots ready to tackle the ‘Three Peaks’ challenge.

The gruelling task consists of climbing up the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales.

The team is made up of centre managing director Matthew Lanham, events manager Leanne Marsden and Nick Emery and Rachel Atkinson from the Physio department.

The mountains will each have their own difficulties for the team with Ben Nevis being a 10-mile round trip and Scafell Pike needing to be climbed in the dark.

This will mean they need to pack their torches and thermals and the challenge is rounded off with a trek up Snowdon, which is arguably the hardest physical climb.

Leanne Marsden, events manager at the centre said: “Last year, Team NMC took part in the banger rally, ‘The Scally Rally Road to Rimini’ across Europe, including three mountain passes and more than 1,600 miles – all in a clapped out banger.

“We raised more than £6,000 and decided that a team of Neuromuscular Centre employees would do a challenge event every year.

“So, as we sat in a car last year, and our colleagues claimed we were ‘on a jolly’, we decided that traversing the biggest mountains in Britain would keep them quiet.

“They all think we are mad, but I am sure with determination and teamwork, we will make it.

“We aim to raise £3,000, all of which will go towards the running of the centre.”
