Thieves conned their way into house wearing rosary beads

TWO men wearing rosary beads and pretending to be from a local church stole cash from a vulnerable 83-year-old woman in Weaverham.

The men, dressed in plain clothes and one wearing prayer beads, approached the woman’s home on Walnut Avenue in the village at about 3.15pm, on Monday, June 22, saying they had connections to a local church.

Once inside her home one of the men said they had seen a rat in the garden, distracting the homeowner, while the other stole a two figure sum of money.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “No one was injured but the woman was left extremely distressed.”

The first man was described as white, slightly tanned and unkempt looking.

He was aged about 21-years-old and between five foot four and five foot six inches tall, slim build with dark hair.

He had a slight pigmentation to the side of his face and was wearing a black top with rosary beads around his neck, black trousers and light coloured shoes. He spoke with a local accent.

The second offender was a white male, aged about 23, with a chubby round face and fair hair, clear complexion and was wearing a cream short sleeved shirt and plain cream trousers.
