WINSFORD festival has been branded a ‘flop’ by revellers.

Visitor turnout to the lifestyle centre was said to have been minimal with as few as two people said to have been inside watching the bands at one point.

Festival goer Andrew Icely, of Trent Close, said: “During the day the only people that went in to the Lifestyle Centre where the family members of the bands playing.

“We where very disappointed with the event, I didn’t go in to the Lifestyle Centre but I did pay for other members of my family to go in and watch my son’s band, but with him only having a 30 minute set this was very expensive.

“I just found the whole thing not be as exciting as it had been portrayed.”

Organiser Steve Smith defended the event, saying that more than 50 tickets were sold for the morning shows.

He said: “People are used to the festival being free and I can see the weather being almost like a double edged sword in that if it was raining people would have felt more like going inside.”

Members of the public where left wondering where their money was going after being charged £5 to enter the centre as part of Winsford Festival’s music scene, a previously free event.

Steve added: “Last year there was too much drinking and I didn’t want to put my volunteers at risk. We also wanted to make the festival more family orientated which is why we decided to move the music stage to the Lifestyle Centre.”

As planning begins for next years festival members of the public are hoping the weekend makes a move to be more like the annual Northwich Thundersprint.

Andrew said: “ I have lived in Winsford for most of my life, I love Winsford and I do want the festival to be good, we need to put Winsford on the map, but ultimately I just feel let down by the organisers.”
