A FUN way to burn off the Christmas calories is starting in Winnington on January 7.

Belly dance classes offer a fun way to shimmy off the pounds and a new teacher is taking over this year.

Sharon Gaunt started going to the classes, at Winnington Park Recreation Club, in 2002 and has since danced with friends in their own group, Nefertiti’s Daughters, and acted as an occasional teacher for the classes since 2006.

Sharon, an adult education tutor and personal trainer, said belly dance increases suppleness, stamina, levels of fitness and tones up your whole body, as well as improving self image and confidence.

The classes take place at Winnington Park Recreation Club from 6.45pm to 7.30pm for beginners, 7.40pm to 8.25pm for improvers and 8.30pm to 9.15pm for intermediates.

Admission is usually £3.80 for one class or £4.80 for two, but there an introductory price of £2.50 for tonight, Wednesday, only.
