Police officer walks free

A POLICE officer has won his appeal against a jail sentence for assault.

Northwich man Daniel Gaffney walked free from Warrington Crown Court today after a two-day retrial.

He had been charged with assaulting a 12-year-old boy at West Didsbury Police Station on November 10 last year.

He was jailed for 12 weeks at Runcorn Magistrates' Court in August and immediately lodged an appeal against the conviction and sentence.
