Heritage lovers bid to save company’s sign

AN appeal has been launched to save part of Northwich’s heritage.

Northwich and District Heritage Society and Northwich Town Council are keen to preserve a logo which is situated on the old Moore and Brock office building.

The building is due to be demolished as part of the Northwich Vision.

On site contractors say the building is in an extremely unstable position and they would need to hire a cherry picker at a cost of £500 in order to go up to the top of the building and retrieve the logo.

Steve Sharman, Northwich Town Council’s chief executive, is unwilling to ask tax payers to pay the full amount.

Stuart Hogg, president of Northwich and District Heritage Society, explained the situation.

He said: “The society is looking for a financial contribution to save and preserve Moore and Brock’s name plate on its building which is due to be demolished to make room for the Northwich Vision.

“The contractors Total Demolition Ltd want £500 for it.

“The heritage society will contribute £250 and is looking for another contributor to save the sign.

Mr Hogg added: “Northwich Town Council has offered to contribute to it by helping to remove the sign and to store it.”

A Vale Royal Borough Council spokesman said: “Vale Royal Borough Council has been approached by Northwich and District Heritage Society about making a financial contribution to recovering the Moore and Brock building logo.

“We will make a decision on this shortly.”
