THE owner of a Davenham cottage at the centre of a planning row said he did have permission to build it.

Tony Newsham said Vale Royal Borough Council gave their permission for Bluebell Cottage to be built at Davenham Nurseries, in London Road.

My argument all along is that it did have planning permission and I believed I was doing everything right

An enforcement notice has been issued by the council, which could mean the cottage has to be pulled down, but an appeal against this has been lodged with the Secretary of State for local government Hazel Blears.

Tony said it was some amendments to this which did not have permission, although I thought he had done everything correctly.

“My argument all along is that it did have planning permission and I believed I was doing everything right,” he said.

“I put it in the hands of an architect to do – I grow plants, I don’t do buildings.

“It was only when I put in plans for an extension they said we didn’t have planning permission for certain parts of it.”
