PATIENTS enjoying exercise at Northwich Infirmary will find their lives are easier thanks to a donation from a local charity.

The Brian Wilson Charitable Trust donated more than £12,000 to the physiotherapy team at the Northwich hospital to help fund an electronic pool hoist.

Many of the patients had much less mobility than I did and yet were organising swimathons and events to raise the necessary funds.

With the support of patients, friends and family, the team had already raised £8,000 through swimathons, raffles and fun days.

Trustee of the Brian Wilson Trust John Pickup, witnessed first hand the difficulties of getting less mobile patients in and out of the pool.

He said: “Many of the patients had much less mobility than I did and yet were organising swimathons and events to raise the necessary funds.

“The trustees were in the privileged position to be able to help top up the fund to ensure the hoist could be bought as soon as possible.

“Seeing it in operation makes us realise how easily we can take for granted simple tasks like getting into the pool.”
