POLICE have warned residents not to fall for a scam reported in Runcorn.
Cheshire Police says officers have been alerted to two men claiming to work fort a housing organisation.
They approached a resident and claimed they needed to carry out emergency work at a cost of hundreds of pounds.
The resident was stopped on their way to a cashpoint by a concerned neighbour, and Cheshire Police is now urging people not to fall for the scam.
The force’s Runcorn Police team said: “Police have been made aware of suspicious activity down Weymouth Close, Murdishaw, Runcorn.
“Two men turned up at an address claiming to be from Riverside Housing and said they were there to do emergency work on the guttering that would cost £200.
“This person was stopped by a concerned neighbour while on the way to the cashpoint.
“If you get anyone claiming to be from Riverside Housing, or any other housing organisation, asking you to take money out of a cashpoint, please report it as soon as possible.”
