A WOMAN has been airlifted to hospital with 'serious injuries' after a tree fell on a car in Oakmere.
The A49 was closed between the A54 and A556 following the incident earlier this afternoon, which left one casualty trapped in the car.
Emergency services attended the scene, with firefighters assisted by a tree surgeon to release the casualty. An air ambulance was called.
Fire crews from Winsford and Northwich were called around 1.30pm.
A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Fire crews were called to Forest Road after a tree fell on a car, trapping a casualty.
"Crews worked with a professional tree surgeon to help remove the tree before crews removed the roof of the vehicle using hydraulic cutting equipment.
"Crews extracted the casualty from the vehicle before handing them over to the care of paramedics.
"The casualty has been taken to hospital via air ambulance."
The road has now reopened.
