NORTHWICH Rotarians joined a global effort to help the environment over the weekend, picking litter in Winnington.

As part of World Cleanup Day – backed by Rotary Clubs UK-wide – members of The Rotary Club of Northwich did their bit to remove plastics from streets, public spaces and waterways.

Supported by Northwich Town Council and its councillors, a group of Rotarians picked litter from several areas in Winnington.

Rotarian Rupert Adams, who organised the team, said: "As Rotarians we are committed to improving our environment and routinely remove rubbish from areas of public space.

"We were delighted to be able to offer our support to clean up streets around Winnington Lane last Saturday and were encouraged by the number of pedestrians and residents who spoke to us and said thank-you.

"In just a couple of hours we collected over 20 large bin bags of rubbish, much of which was plastic waste, so the effort was particularly worthwhile."
