TOP UK folk artists Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman are set to capture the imagination of music lovers when they bring their new show to Northwich.

The husband and wife duo will perform songs from their fifth album Personaetour at Cheshire’s Lion Salt Works Museum at 8pm on Saturday, September 29.

Multi-award winners, the pair twice won BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for best duo in 2016 and 2013.

Kathryn and Sean’s highly-acclaimed music is rich, intimate, warm and inspiring.

Their assured and distinctive performances draw upon British folk tradition but weave in their own original and eclectic flavours.

Their self-penned songs sit comfortably alongside traditional ballads to provide a hugely entertaining and varied evening of music and song from the bitter to the sweet and the political to the passive.

In their landmark album the duo introduces a host of new characters and stories from their fertile and energetic musical imaginations.

Kathryn, from Dartmoor in Devon, said: “The sources for our songs are eclectic. In this album we sing about knights, a grizzly murder, giants and even an ancient tortoise.

"There is so much nice material to put into our folk songs and we enjoy mixing things up in a bold and imaginative way.

"We are really looking forward to singing at the historic Lion Salt Works Museum which sounds like a perfect setting for our music.”

Cllr Louise Gittins, cabinet member for communities and wellbeing at Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: “I am delighted the museum has attracted one of the UK’s top folk duos.

"They are exciting and original performers and it promises to be an enchanting evening of song. The Lion Salt Works is rapidly gaining a reputation not just for its imaginative plays and dance performances but also as a distinctive and interesting folk music venue.”

The Lion Salt Works Museum has won nine awards since opening in 2015 after a four-year £10 million restoration, including winning the National Lottery’s top award for heritage projects in 2016.

The museum on Ollershaw Lane in Marston tells the story of salt in fun and interactive displays, including a sound and light show that evokes the steam rising from the giant salt pans.

In addition to a children’s play area, shop, butterfly garden and café, there are also year-round activities.

These range from touring rural arts plays, super salt Saturday featuring science activities to events featuring historic narrowboats and steam engines.

Parking is free.
