A LEFTWICH granddad is to take a leap of faith in Turkey to raise money in memory of his late wife.

Three generations of the Spruce family, led by lifelong Northwich resident Eddie, will paraglide off Babadag Mountain in September hoping to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Eddie’s wife Mary – mum and grandma, respectively, to fellow paragliders Yvonne and Genevieve – suffered from the disease before she passed away in 2015.

But the family team is now well on its way to raising £1,000 for the charity, which provides care for those living with dementia, as well as research.

Genevieve Helm, the youngest of the group, has set up a JustGiving page to boost donations.

She said: “Having lost Mary, a treasured wife, mother and grandma to Alzheimer’s, we’ve decided to send three generations of our family up Babadag Mountain in Turkey and the only way down is by paraglider.

“All to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society to help fund the valuable research they do and care they provide to people affected by this devastating disease.

“This will be the first and hopefully not the last time Grandpa, at the grand young age of 86 will be running off the edge of the mountain and paragliding his way back down to Oludeniz beach below for a stiff drink at The Buzz Bar.

“Please help us raise as much money as possible for this great charity and show your support to get a reluctant Grandpa up the mountain, along with Mum and me.”
