A TOUR of Northwich's historic buildings and an open day at the Plaza are on the bill for this year's Heritage Open Days festival.

The annual event, now in its 24th year, sees a whole host of events take place across the borough on September 6 to 9 and 13 to 16.

Taking place over two weekends for this first time in its history, the festival celebrates architecture and heritage, revealing the stories about buildings and the people who have lived, used or worked in them

Cllr Louise Gittins, Cheshire West and Chester Council cabinet member for communities and wellbeing, said: “Heritage Open Days wouldn’t be possible without the help of the many building owners and local volunteers.

"The programme gets bigger every year and this year is no exception being spread over two weekends.

“As with previous years some of the tours get booked very quickly but there is a lot to choose from and most of the buildings don’t require booking.

"This is a Europe-wide celebration of buildings and a chance to discover some of our hidden gems.”

An exhibition of 1930s-style railway posters will be on show at the Plaza on September 15 and 16, while Northwich Heritage Tour takes place on Sunday, September 16 from 11am to 2pm.

Other Northwich events include peeks inside Bratts, Weaver Hall Museum, Lion Salt Works, Anderton Boat Lift, Northwich Library, a woodland and railway walk, St Helens Church, St Michaels in Little Leigh, and Parrs Bank – now CRS Consultants.
