ALMOST half of A Level grades awarded to students at St Nicholas this year were A*s, As or Bs.

Headteacher Richard Woods has hailed another ‘successful’ year at the school, where 13 per cent of students achieved straight As and A*s across all of their subjects.

Mr Woods said: “These excellent results are testament to the hard work and dedication of students and staff throughout the last two years and the previous five years of preparation for these crucial examinations.

“As a fully inclusive Catholic sixth form we are very proud of the achievements of our students. Yet again, all of our students applying for medicine and veterinary science were successful and secured the course of their choice.

“Some individual successes included Lucas Fisher achieved four A* grades in maths, further maths, physics and chemistry and will be reading computer science at Warwick University.

“Harriet Bales achieved A*s in both English and law and an A in maths and will be reading law at Georgetown University in the United States.

“Thomas Campbell, Ronan Eves and Victoria Fletcher all secured A*s and As across their individual subjects with Thomas now looking to study maths at Warwick University, Ronan medicine at Edinburgh University and Victoria medicine at Leeds University.

“We are delighted for all of our students and wish them every success as they begin this new and exciting chapter in their lives.”

Tom Campbell gained and A* and two As in maths, further maths and physics.

He said: “Some of the exams were quite good actually and I came out pretty pleased.

“A select few were horrible – physics was tough but I got an A there so I’m happy.

“I have mostly just avoiding thinking about today. All your friends are in the same boat so it’s a lot of ‘I won’t talk about it if you don’t’ kind of avoiding it.”
