HIGH achievers at Sir John Deane’s are spreading across the UK on the back of excellent A Level results.

As well as students heading off to Oxbridge, there will be Northwich representation across a range of subjects at Russell Group universities such as Liverpool, Warwick and Bristol.

Students at the college achieved a record 99.6 per cent pass rate, with 113 of them achieving straight A grades.

Some went one better, with 13 students gaining three A*s or better.

Daniel Weaver, who gained top grades in maths, physics, electronics and computer science, will be studying computer science at Bristol.

He said: “What’s the point in making it easy?

“I didn’t know what to expect – I knew I had worked hard and put the effort in. I slept better last night than I did all the other nights this weeks to be honest.”

Joshua Appleton was another to take home four A* grades, in maths, further maths, additional further maths – which he taught himself – and physics. He will study maths at Warwick from September.

His mum, Dawn, said: “We are incredibly proud, especially of the one he taught himself. He was quietly confident, a little bit anxious that the reality would match up but he has pulled it off.”

Dad Tim added that, on top of the near-five hours per subject per week of lessons, Joshua averaged a past paper every two days throughout his studies.

Future medic Enya Fitton said the wait between exams and results had been an anxious one.

“I felt like I was constantly about to run 100m sprint,” said Enya, who achieved A*AA and will study medicine at Liverpool University.

“Biology is my favourite so I’m glad the A* is in that. I’m so excited and I just can’t wait to get started.

“I went onto UCAS Track this morning and knew I had got in, but didn’t know what I had got so this made it better.

“I wasn’t expecting these results. I thought I had got a B in my maths, so to get an A and then the A* is amazing – I’m over the moon.”

The school saw a 100 per cent pass rate in 26 subjects, with outstanding results in the so-called facilitating subjects – those most valued by the top universities. More than three quarters of students achieved at least one grade of A*, A or B.

Principal Kerry Kirkwood, said: “I am absolutely thrilled with what our students have achieved with this outstanding set of results.

“They have demonstrated exceptional work ethic, commitment and ambition with the support of their incredible teachers.

“These results were awarded at a time of significant reform to A level qualifications, however we have not only managed to retain our tradition of success but deliver some the most impressive results in our history.

“This is an extremely proud moment for everyone here at Sir John Deane’s and I’d like to offer my warmest congratulations to all.”
