NORTHWICH residents have voted to adopt the town's new Neighbourhood Plan.

After five years of work by volunteers to put the plan together - a blueprint for development in the town through to 2030 - a referendum took place yesterday, Thursday.

The final vote revealed that 88.2 per cent of those who cast a vote were in favour of the plan.

Voters were asked 'Do you want Cheshire West and Chester Council to use the Neighbourhood Plan for the Northwich area to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?'

There were 1,704 'Yes' votes, compared to 215 for 'no'. Twelve ballots were rejected, and the total turnout was 11.4 per cent - 1,931 voters.

Cheshire West and Chester Council will now use the document in planning deliberations.

Other parishes across the area have already adopted - or are in the process of adopting - their own Neighbourhood Plans, which complement the borough council's Local Plan.
