TWO drivers from Roberts Bakery have taken top honours in an industry awards scheme, beating more than 180,000 other UK drivers.

Mark Lyons won the Lifetime Achievement Award category, and Gary Hollindrake the Most Improved Driver of the Year in the hotly-contested annual Microlise Driver of the Year Award event.

Stephen Amphlett, also from Roberts, who was nominated in the Extra Mile category, was highly commended.

All three won a day at the Porsche Track Day at Silverstone, courtesy of MAN Truck & Bus UK, in recognition of being nominated.

Mark Owen, logistics director at Roberts, said: “These nominations recognise hard work and commitment to the role and pride in the job. We are delighted for them all and especially for Mark and Gary who took the top spots in their categories.”

Judging individual category entries fell to an independent panel which included Road Haulage Association chief executive Richard Burnett, Motor Transport editor Steve Hobson, freelance journalist Sharon Clancy, and Microlise director of product Stephen Watson.
