AFTER holding the 58.6 per cent Conservative vote share in Tatton at last June’s snap general election, few doubted that Esther McVey was headed for a return to a top role.

Vacated by former chancellor George Osborne, the seat – which represents Barnton, Lostock, Rudheath and Wincham as well as Knutsford and Wilmslow – is traditionally a stronghold for the party.

Esther was promoted to deputy chief whip and then again to work and pensions secretary, and now splits her time between constituency and cabinet work.

She said: “What a year it has been. From a life-changing moment, becoming the MP for Tatton, to a life-changing year moving home to live in Tatton.

“I began regular weekly surgeries across the constituency and am now helping hundreds of people a week across the constituency – 6,000 people in the last year.

“Of course I couldn’t do this alone. I have two brilliant members of staff, lots of you may already have met them, Angela and Harrison who work full time in the office Monday to Friday. And they don’t half keep me busy working on your behalf taking up matters on issues as diverse as planning and highways to local business support and inward investment.

“We work as a team to support the local area.

“What a dynamic community we have in Tatton – who I’ve litter picked with, collected Christmas trees with, fundraised with, even marched alongside Scarecrows with and just last weekend got to crown the new Bayley Rose Queen. And what a successful business community we have too who I get to breakfast with and do weekly visits to.

“From schools to community groups, our local health service to carers and young people, I make sure I represent your views including at the highest levels around the Cabinet table, for this year I was privileged to be made a Cabinet Minister.

“I will always be a very local and active MP, living and working in the constituency, this is my home and where my top priority will always be.”
