A NORTHWICH man has died after being hit by a lorry on the A556 yesterday.

The collision between the 61-year-old pedestrian and a red DAF HGV occurred shortly before 8am on Tuesday, June 12, on the A556 eastbound carriageway, in Lostock Green, by the junction with Birches Lane.

The eastbound carriageway was closed for around three hours.

Cheshire Police have now confirmed that the man died at the scene, and have launched an investigation into the collision. 

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: "Sadly the pedestrian, a 61-year-old local man, sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and they are being supported by specialist officers.

"The driver of the HGV was uninjured and no arrests have been made."
