Friends and relatives of Northwich resident John Leigh will take part in a charity football tournament in his memory on Sunday.

John, 44, died suddenly just before Christmas last year and his colleagues at Northwich’s Tesco store wanted to pay tribute to him in a way that they knew John would enjoy.

John played regularly with colleagues from the store and his team mates will take to the pitch in his memory.

John’s son Benjamin will also don his boots for his team, Witton u8s, as they take on Youthkicks u8s.

Alongside the football there will be a raffle, Tombola, bouncy castle and BBQ, to raise funds for a children’s play area.

Tesco Northwich community champion Julie Stockton said: “We miss John so much and wanted to pay tribute to him by doing something he loved, playing football. At the same time, we want to support building a play area in his name as a lasting memorial. It’s an open invitation to come down and have some fun to remember John.”

Events take place from 12pm at Lostock Gralam FC, Manchester Road.
