CROWDS packed into this year’s free ‘Live & Local’ Festival, which kicked off on Saturday, May 19.

There were plenty of children’s activities and colourful stalls, selling everything from cupcakes to jewellery, food and drink to face-painting at the free festival, which celebrated the Royal Wedding and the FA Cup final, held at the Lion Salt Works Museum.

The Live & Local festival was organised by Marston resident and music promoter, Iain Stead and his daughter, Claire.

Iain said: “It was a fantastic feel-good community event, which was a hit with children and adults alike. The artists were quality acts and we got lots of great feedback. We will be holding another ‘Live & Local’ event in September and hope to repeat this festival again next year.”

During the weekend, 10 north-west bands played, including Mal Dino, Codswallop, Paul Parish, Chris Tavener and George Borowski and Moira.

Part of the proceeds from the event will be given to the local Marston parish council for improvements to the village hall.

Councillor Louise Gittins, cabinet member for communities and wellbeing, said: “This was a fun, relaxing weekend full of good music, food and entertainment.

“I am delighted that the Lion Salt Works Museum is able to hold free, fun events of this sort. I applaud the Museum and local organisers who have made this possible.”
