STUDENTS at The Grange School have come up with the goods after being set the task of designing and creating products for tea rooms across Cheshire.

The owners of Ginger and Pickles Tea Rooms, based in Tarporley and Nantwich, set a brief for the Year 10 textile students to create decorative embellished tea towels to be exhibited and sold.

The brief asked them to ‘capture the essence’ of the tea rooms, mirroring style and interiors while appealing to its market audience.

All 13 students created an exciting, unique, professional and attractive product, which showcased skills in embroidery, digital print and pattern design.

On top of their creations, students were asked to complete a sketchbook showing their visual journey and inspiration.

This included visits to the tea rooms and to the Burleigh Pottery factory in Stoke-on-Trent, where Ginger and Pickles get their iconic blue and white crockery.

More than 100 customers judged the tea towels on social media and in store over two weeks.

Ginger and Pickles owner Beverley Ozard visited The Grange at the end of April to meet the students and the head of school, Debbie Leonard.

Students and teachers celebrated the event with plenty of delicious treats generously provided by Ginger and Pickles.

Beverley said: “All the designs received such high praise from so many customers, who were in awe of the incredible talent and the professionalism of each outcome – it took everyone a lot of deliberation as the standard was so high.

“All students created something so special, so skilled and so personal it made the decision incredibly hard.”

The ‘Best in Show’ tea towel was awarded to Rebecca Walker for her intricate design, featuring the three iconic Burleigh cup designs.

Rebecca received an afternoon tea prize for herself and her family as part of her award, and is looking forward to indulging in Ginger and Pickles delicious cake.
